Elephant Sanctuary in Phuket, Thailand

Thailand has been on my list of places to travel for years! Everytime I would see a picture I was reminded that I had to go! It always seemed like this magical place. Well, I went last month, and let me tell you, the pictures don't lie! Thailand is every ounce of beautiful as you can imagine.

Before going on the trip I knew I wanted to see elephants but I was cautious because lots of people had spoke of how inhumane some elephant excursions are. So, I did my research and decided to go with an elephant sanctuary called: Phuket Elephant Sanctuary. I chose this one because it's one of the oldest ones in Thailand, but also one of the most respected. Phuket Elephant Sanctuary does not let you bathe with the elephants or ride them, as these are not events that happen in nature. They take in elephants that have come from abusive situations by buying them from previous owners.

My friends and I spent a tour-guided afternoon with the elephants and it was one of the best experiences I had in Thailand! Seeing these elephants that had come out of abusive situations now being able to spend the rest of their years in a place that they are cared for, well fed, loved and appreciated was so beautiful to see. If Thailand is not on your list, add it now!
